Real Madrid secured a thrilling 5-3 comeback victory over city rivals Atletico in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final in Riyadh.
An own goal by Stefan Savic and a late strike by Brahim Diaz in extra time sealed the win. Real Madrid will now face the winners of the Barcelona versus Osasuna clash in the final on Sunday.
The match hailed as one of the best of the Spanish season, featured a fierce rivalry, a remarkable comeback, and high stakes.
“It was spectacular, but we don’t enjoy matches like this. The wear and tear has been tremendous because we are two very strong teams who have given everything,” stated Real manager Carlo Ancelotti.
Atletico took an early lead with Mario Hermoso’s header, but Real responded with goals from Antonio Rudiger and Ferland Mendy.
Antoine Griezmann’s brilliant long-range strike reclaimed the lead for Atletico before halftime. The seesaw battle continued, with both teams scoring and the match ending 3-3 in regular time.

In extra time, Atletico went ahead with a goal resulting from a Kepa Arrizabalaga error. Real Madrid equalized through Dani Carvajal, and a late own goal by Stefan Savic gave Real the advantage. Brahim Diaz sealed the win with a counter-attack in the dying moments.
Atletico manager Diego Simeone expressed pride in his players despite the unfortunate outcome.
The city rivals will meet again in the Copa del Rey last 16 next week, followed by a La Liga match at the Santiago Bernabeu in three weeks.
