It is a sigh of relief for residents of Matungu, Kakamega County, after elected leaders in the constituency who have been embroiled in bitter political wrangles finally buried the hatchet.
The area MP, Peter Nabulindo, and four (4) Members of County Assembly (MCAs) on Sunday, March 17 held a four-hour meeting in Kakamega town… a meeting that saw the leaders have a handshake and agree to work together.
“Politics without development is useless. That’s why we have decided to come together as elected leaders and forge the way forward, which is work together for the betterment of the people of Matungu. We will work together to pull resources and development projects from both national and county governments,” MP Nabulindo, flanked by the MCAs, told journalists.
The MCAs underscored the need to work together in harmony as elected leaders, acknowledging that the leadership wrangles had not helped the locals with development projects at all.
“Out of the 12 constituencies in Kakamega, Matungu has been hitting the headlines for all the wrong leadership reasons, and that’s why we decided to sit down as leaders and ask ourselves, ‘what is the problem?'” One of the MCAs said.
“When 5 years elapse, our electorates will ask us, ‘what have you done for us?’. That’s why we said as Matungu MCAs, we will unite with our MP to realise development for our people,” another MCA added.
The MP met four out of five elected MCAs in the constituency among them Fredrick Watitwa (Mayoni) and Donald Okumu (Koyonzo).
