Rescue operations after River Voi burst its banks

Residents of Voi town in Taita Taveta County woke up to a rude shock on Monday, December 4 morning after River Voi burst its banks.

The Kenya Red Cross Society is currently on site, conducting search and rescue operations for families marooned by the rising waters.

Taita Taveta is among the 38 counties in “alarm stage” as heavy rains — occasioned by the El-Nino effect — continue to pound.

In late November, more than 400 families in Taveta Constituency were rendered homeless after their homes were swept by raging flash floods.

Villages that were highly hit by the flash floods — occasioned after rivers Ruvu and Njoro broke their banks — include, Mwarusa, Mata, Lesuyai, Rekeke, Kitobo, Wanganga, Gregan and Tangini.
