Retired KDF officers distribute food to Kisumu retirees and families of officers who died in line of duty

Retired Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) officers, under the umbrella of Kenya Veterans for Peace, have extended a helping hand to their fellow retirees and the families of officers who died in service in Kisumu County.

They distributed assorted food items to 150 families to cushion them during these challenging economic times.

Nelson Sechere, Executive Director of Kenya Veterans for Peace, said they are targeting all regions and are also drilling several boreholes to contribute to the country’s food security.

The beneficiaries — mostly widows to the fallen ex-KDF soldiers — pleaded with the government to review the 5 duration they receive pension money once their husbands die, saying the current  5 years is little compared to the service offered by their husbands.

In early July this year, the Kenya Veterans for Peace also distributed assorted food items to the families of their departed colleagues in Machakos County.

The organisation was formed after the 2007-2008 Post Election Violence to call for peace among different communities.
