Manchester United have been dealt another blow after it was confirmed that defender Lisandro Martinez will be sidelined for two to three months due to a foot injury.
This comes after the 25-year-old Argentine international had already missed the conclusion of the previous season following a metatarsal fracture in April.
Although he made a return to action at the beginning of the current season, United has disclosed that Martinez has suffered an “aggravation” of the previous foot injury
“Lisandro Martinez will be out of action for an extended period due to an aggravation of the foot injury he suffered in April. The Argentinian defender experienced the setback in our Premier League game against Arsenal earlier this month,” the club said in a statement.
The club explained that this setback occurred during their Premier League match against Arsenal earlier this month.
They further stated that Martinez will require a period of recovery and rehabilitation, with ongoing assessments to determine the next course of action.
During a news conference, manager Erik ten Hag expressed his disappointment, both for Martinez and the team, noting that the player was not at full fitness.
He highlighted the noticeable contrast between Martinez’s recent performances and his form from the previous season.

Martinez had participated in matches against Wolves, Tottenham, and Nottingham Forest before featuring in a 3-1 loss to Arsenal on September 3rd.
Subsequently, he played in losses against Brighton and Bayern Munich but was absent for the victories over Burnley and Crystal Palace.
Martinez had joined Manchester United from Ajax in July of the previous year in a deal worth up to £57 million. He played a pivotal role in helping the team secure a third-place finish in the Premier League and win the Carabao Cup.
