During a recent event, Vice President Rigathi Gachagua had everyone in stitches with his humorous take on President William Ruto‘s US visit.
As the president looked on, Rigathi Gachagua recounted how Ruto holding his wife’s hand while walking sparked a domestic debate back home.
Gachagua revealed, “While the president was in the US, he held his wife’s hand everywhere they went. This, of course, led to my wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, demanding the same royal treatment.
She even upped the ante, saying she wanted me to hold her hand around the house, too!”
Gachagua in limbo
Gachagua said he had no idea how to handle this new expectation.
However, he knew President Ruto would return and resolve the issue with his usual decisiveness. And resolve it he did, but not quite in the way anyone expected.
“When the president came back,” Gachagua continued, barely containing his laughter, “we all watched closely during an event.
As we headed out, President Ruto marched ahead with the other dignitaries, leaving First Lady Rachel Ruto to follow behind.
That settled it! We all realized that the hand-holding thing was just an American thing.”
The room erupted in laughter, appreciating Gachagua’s ability to turn a personal anecdote into a delightful joke, and it seemed the matter of hand-holding was humorously put to rest.
