Rugby Powerhouse schools set to represent Kenya at East Africa Games in Uganda

With the conclusion of the KSSSA Nationals, the rugby teams that will represent Kenya at the upcoming FEASSA Games in Uganda have been confirmed. After dominating on the national stage, these teams are ready to face off against the best from East Africa from August 16th to 27th, 2024.

Girls’ 7s:

  • St. Joseph Kitale
  • Kinale Girls
  • St. Theresa Girls
  • Nyagichenya Secondary

These schools have emerged as the top contenders in girls’ rugby, with St. Joseph Kitale and Kinale Girls leading the charge. This year marks the first time girls’ rugby has been included in the FEASSA Games, adding an exciting new dimension to the competition.

Boys’ 15s:

  • All Saints Embu
  • Butula Boys
  • Kitondo School
  • Lenana School

The Boys’ 15s category witnessed intense competition earlier this year during the 1st term Nationals in Machakos, where these four schools established themselves as dominant forces. They are now set to showcase their strength and tactical prowess on the East African stage.

Boys’ 7s:

  • Bwake Boys
  • Vihiga High School
  • St. Mary’s Yala
  • Kisii School

Bwake Boys enter the East Africa Games with momentum, having been crowned the 2024 KSSSA 7s Boys National champions. Their journey to the title was dramatic. They dominated Upperhill in the pool stages with a 12-5 victory but stumbled against Vihiga, losing 17-0. Despite the setback, they bounced back in the Cup Quarters, narrowly edging out Koyonzo 10-5. In the semis, they faced a nail-biting encounter against St. Mary’s Yala, emerging victorious by a slender 3-point margin (10-7), securing their place in the final. Bwake then overcame Vihiga in the final with a 19-14 win, setting the stage for an exciting showdown at the East Africa Games.

The schools are set to leave for Uganda next week, ready to make their mark on the regional stage.
