Ruiru: Fire destroys furniture worth KSh50M

A devastating fire broke out at the Modern Furniture Pacific shop in Ruiru, Kiambu County, early Wesnesday morning, destroying property worth an estimated KSh50 million.

The fire occurred shortly after power was restored at around 6:00 a.m., following a night of blackouts.

Ruiru Sub-County Police Commander Alex Shikondi has indicated that the fire may have been caused by a power fault, though investigations are underway.

The shop’s owner, Gibson Murage, confirmed that no one was injured in the incident, which was reported just minutes after 6:00 a.m.

Firefighters managed to contain the blaze before it could spread to other nearby godowns.

However, the fire destroyed all the furniture-making machines in the shop, which are essential to the business’s operations.

In his statement, Shikondi urged the public to prioritize saving lives and property, instead of taking advantage of the situation through theft.

Despite the heavy losses, the business owner expressed relief that there were no casualties.

Investigations into the exact cause of the fire continue as authorities work to prevent similar incidents in the future.
