President William Ruto has ordered an immediate investigation of 3,000 candidates who were registered for the 2023 KCSE exams but did not sit for them.
While speaking at State Lodge Eldoret, the President stated that strict actions would be taken against those involved in exam malpractice.

According to the State House Press secretary, Emmanuel Talam, the President expressed particular interest in individuals reported for cheating during the exams.
Speaking during the release of the 2023 KCSE examinations on Monday, January 8, 2024, at Moi Girls High School Eldoret, Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu said that there were few cases of examination irregularities in the 2023 exams.
Machogu stated that only four candidates had their results canceled due to impersonation.
However, the Education CS reported that Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) withheld the results of 4,109 candidates due to suspected exam malpractices.

Total number of candidates who sat for the exams
At least 899,453 candidates sat for the KCSE exams, which commenced on October 23, 2023, and concluded in November 2023.
Among these candidates, 450,554 were male, while 448,899 were female, representing 50.09% and 49.91% of the total candidature, respectively.

Last month, CS Machogu had disclosed that marking of the KCSE exams was complete and KNEC officials and examiners were verifying the marks.
“We are currently compiling the marks, conducting verification and validation, ensuring the release of credible results,” said Machogu.
The Education CS assured the country that the marking centres were increased from 35 to 40 to ensure efficiency and credibility in the exercise.
How to check KCSE results
Education cabinet secretary Ezekiel Machogu said that those student who want to know their results will have to get their results through the KNEC website or from their respective schools.
He further stated that there will be no sending short messages for receiving 2023 KCSE results
“Visit http://results.knec.ac.ke. Enter the student’s index number and name then search,” Ezekiel Machogu.
