President William Ruto put the minds of Junior Secondary School JSS teachers interning at the moment at ease, promising that his administration would hire them after they finish their two-year internship stint as required by the Public Service act.
The intern’s contract was bound to elapse at the end of this year but President William Ruto has called on the teachers to report to school in January when the school calendar begins.
President Ruto revealed that after two years the interns will be given priority in the hiring process come 2026, and they will be hired on permanent and pensionable terms.
“The JSS intern teachers will be at work in January. We had promised that before being employed on permanent and pensionable terms in all the sectors, they must do an internship for two years,” stated the head of State.
At the Same time the President Ruto indicated that after the current interns have been hired the government will begin recruiting a fresh batch.
The Teachers Service Commission TSC had late last year hired the interns on a one-year contract, given the state of the JSS which is fairly new in the country most of the teachers had lamented over the huge work load without proper a contractual engagement with the government.
In November the Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers had threatened to strike if the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) fails to offer better terms of service.
For instance, JSS teachers in Homa Bay County held demonstrations on Wednesday, November 29, lamenting that the government has failed to give them permanent and pensionable terms.
Speaking during a press briefing in Homa Bay town, the teachers stated that TSC had promised to change their terms of service to permanent and pensionable, as well as giving them a salary increase.
