Ruto: How I intervened to solve garbage dumping incident at Kenya Power

President William Ruto has said he stepped in to settle the power struggle between Nairobi Governor Sakaja and KPLC after a garbage dumping incident at Kenya Power headquarters in Nairobi.

Speaking on Sunday March 2, 2025 during a church service at Jesus Winner Ministry, Roysambu, Ruto said he called both Sakaja and KPLC management and asked them to stop the back-and-forth.

At the same time, Ruto thanked Sakaja for apologizing over the incident.

What led to the garbage incident

The whole mess started when KPLC cut power to City Hall over unpaid bills.

Why President Ruto congratulated Sakaja

“I want to give a shout-out to our governor. He made a mistake recently, so I called him, and the others involved and asked them to stop the whole thing,” stated Ruto.

“Following the mistake, Sakaja admitted and apologized, though it takes guts to admit you’re sorry, so congratulations to Sakaja,” he added.

Additionally, Ruto said that Nairobi should be a shining example for progress and development.

He stressed that the county needs to work together with everyone else to keep the city growing and thriving.

The president also called on all leaders to prioritize serving the people and making it easier for business operators to invest in Nairobi.
