Ruto: In 10 years time, Kibera will be an estate

National NewsNews

President William Ruto has announced plans for a complete transformation of Kibera, one of Africa’s largest slums, into a well-developed estate within the next decade.

He made this announcement during a church service in Lang’ata, emphasizing that this transformation will be made possible through the government’s ambitious Affordable Housing Project, which aims to provide decent housing to Kenyan residents living in informal settlements.

“We also aim to uplift people from slums, particularly here in Kibera. In ten years, there will be no slum here; we will have converted it into a well-planned estate,” stated the President.

President Ruto highlighted that this massive project will play a significant role in creating job opportunities for the country’s youth.

“This plan serves two purposes. It’s not just about housing; it’s also about job creation. Our goal is to construct a minimum of 200,000 houses, ensuring that all young people in Nairobi have employment opportunities,” he explained.

This announcement follows President Ruto’s recent inspection of the Mukuru Met Social Housing Project, which comprises 14,000 housing units in Mukuru, Nairobi. He noted that this project would provide employment to approximately 4,000 local youths.

Under the Kenya Kwanza regime, the objective is to construct at least 250,000 houses annually for the next five years. This initiative has the potential to benefit over six million Kenyans by providing them with access to decent and affordable housing.
