President William Ruto has maintained that the school feeding programme is effective.

He revealed that plans are underway to expand the feeding programme in Nairobi.

“We have just agreed with the Nairobi City County on expanding the school feeding programme,” said the head of state.

Speaking in the United States of America, he said that the programme is set to benefit 250,000 children.

Ruto assures support for the Nairobi county government

“250,000 students will benefit from the new programme in school feeding in Nairobi. Support for Nairobi City county counts for so much.”

Mr Ruto said that there is need to support Nairobi county as in this regard eases the burden for the county government to deliver on aspects “that come as a result of climate change.”

“We have already engaged in the programme but we are re-looking at some of the aspects because the current cadaster we are using is a 1994 one.”

“It is quite aged because times have changed, levies have changed, valuations have changed.”

“There is need for a re-look to ensure we marry services with different regions and services.”

Moses Kuria and Babu Owino online spat

This comes amidst an onli9ne war between Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja and Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino over the management of Nairobi.

The two engaged in an online spat on September 16. Babu Owino launched a tirade against the policies of Governor Sakaja’s administration.

Without mincing his words in accusing him of overseeing wanton corruption at City Hall.

Proof of the effectiveness of the school feeding programme

But in a rejoinder, Sakaja went all out in trying to clear his name, albeit online.

“If you removed the white stuff you are stuffing up your nose, you’d realize there’s a difference between bursaries and Ward based Development funds,” Sakaja answered Babu.

“Bursaries are 7m per ward (85 wards). (2.5 term 1, 2.5 term 2 and 2m term 3). Up from 4.5m. Every ward is getting WDF of 23 Million for Development not bursaries. Up from 17m.”

Babu then asked Sakaja to prove the school feeding programme is effective to which he responded with a video of school children feeding.
