Embattled Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has watered down 11 grounds of an impeachment motion against him before the National Assembly.
According to DP Gachagua, he is being treated unfairly, insisting accusations against him were baseless, and based on mere propaganda.
One of the accusations the second in command is facing is that of publicly attacking the National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General Noordin Haji at the height of Gen Z protests.
But in his defense on Tuesday, October 8, Gachagua said that he is a good student of his boss, President William Ruto, and that he was following in his footsteps.
He went on to play several videos in which Ruto, while he was the deputy president, severely criticised top security officials at the time, including Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss George Kinoti and National Police Service Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai.
“When President William Ruto was Deputy President, he used to criticise IG Hillary Mutyambai, DCI George Kinoti. Rigathi Gachagua has learnt his job from his boss. Public officers must be called to order when they fail shot of expectations,” DP Gachagua said, adding, “I never saw anybody bring William Ruto for impeachment for criticising the IG or DCI.”
