‘Ruto will win a second term in 2027’ – says former Nairobi governor Kidero

Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has said President William Ruto has high chances of being re-elected in the 2027 elections.

Speaking during a press briefing on Monday January 13, 2025, Kidero, the first Nairobi City County governor explained that President Ruto is poised to comfortably win his second term in office based on his development track record that is already evident.

According to Kidero, President Ruto has steered Kenya’s economy from rock bottom to greater heights after taking over power in 2022.

The former Nairobi governor cited agricultural development as the backbone of the country’s economic revamp and noted that the current upward trajectory will give Ruto an easy ride to his second term.

“President William Ruto will definitely win his second term in 2027. The Kenya Kwanza administration has prioritized agriculture and improved productivity by taking deliberate measures like giving the fertilizer subsidy to our farmers.

“Every Kenyan farmer has felt the impact, as productivity has improved. For the first time, Kenya has not imported maize or other agricultural produce because with subsidized fertilizer, our farmers have been able to produce more,” Kidero said.

At the same time Kidero noted that under the Ruto administration, Kenya’s economy has grown and with two more years, every Kenyan will feel the positive impact.

Meanwhile, Kidero called on youthful social media users to exercise responsibility in their use of the social space noting that Kenya has a democratic space for critics of the government but this criticism should be constructive and objective.

“I call upon our youth to use social media in a responsible manner. This is a tool that has the potential to create jobs for our youths so instead of mocking leaders online, they should use social media as a commercial tool.

“You can monetize content creation instead of misusing the freedom of expression on the social space,” Kidero advised.

Kidero was appointed by President Ruto in November 2024 to chair the Kenya National Trading Corporation (KNTC).

In a gazette notice dated November 15, 2024 President Ruto confirmed the appointment of Kidero to serve in the position for a period of three years.
