Getting Married

The politician revealed that despite dating for a short while with the father of her child, she felt the need to get married because “I was too Christian”.

Life was however fair to her as she had two jobs at the time and a few businesses on the side.

“I had my own house- a one room house in Kayole that I was paying KSh1,500 per month. I used to act in ‘Tausi’ and I was involved in a sales job that paid KSh500 a day. That was good money then,” Chege explained.

Apparently, so high was her income that when she completed her three months maternity leave, Sabina Chege bought a car and would drive to university every day.

Sabina Chege Joins Radio

From an actor, to a saleswoman, the former Murang’a Woman Rep decided to take a shot at journalism.

“In my first year at university, Kameme FM started. I went and asked for a chance. I was not a trained journalist but I could speak very good Kikuyu. I was given an interview on a Saturday and by Monday and I was told I had passed,” Sabina Chege recalled.

Being a young mum who was in school, the politician requested for a late night show.

This allowed her to attend classed during the day, cook supper for her family in the evening and report to work by 8:30pm.

She rose above the ranks in the radio field which eventually offered her a platform to join politics.
