Nominated Member of Parliament (MP) Sabina Chege disclosed that she was once was a matatu driver in her youthful days.
Sabina Chege spoke during an interview on TV47’s entertainment show dubbed Wabebe Experience. It airs every Friday from 10pm.
“After Form Four I came to Nairobi where I worked a house girl .One day I watched ‘Tausi’ show on KBC and I was interested. So one day I walked to KBC and said I want to see ‘Tausi’ people. I replaced a character called ‘Rehema’ in the show,” she narrated.
KSh1,500 House in Kayole
The former Murang’a Woman Rep would then acquire another job as a sales lady that earned her an average of KSh500 a day.
This helped her afford a one roomed house in Kayole that she paid KSh1,500 rent per month.
It was during that season where she got into her first relationship that led to marriage in less than a year.
“I was very bold. That was my first boyfriend. I think I felt the need to get married because ‘I was too Christian’. I thought that when you are in a relationship you must get married.
“I’d not even known that guy for a long time. I did not get married because I was pregnant,” Sabina Chege recalled.

Fortunately, the couple owned a few rental mabati houses in Kawangware which brought in enough capital to purchase a matatu.
“We invested in matatu business. By the time I went to university I had a gold card at Stanchart.
“When I was pregnant I would go drive matatu kidogo, napiga squad Dagoretti. (I used to do a few matatu rounds in Dagoretti). I used to have matatus called ‘Dangerous Grounds’,” the politician added, letting out a hearty laugh.
Sabina Chege stated that the child, her firstborn, turned out alright and is now studying abroad.
Over the years, she got two more children who are now in high school and primary school respectively.
