Eldoret town was painted green on Saturday as Safaricom launched the Safaricom Hook platform for Generation Z (Gen Z).
The event hosted at Eldoret Sports Club was headlined by top talents like Ssaru, Fathermoh and Khaligraph.
Media personality Sheila Kwambox was the night’s master of ceremony.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Peter Ndegwa amused the audience with a botched attempt to communicate in slang’ during the launch.

“Wasee wa ELD mko sawa? Mko poa? Mnataka bundles?” He asked amidst a hearty laughter.
Mr Ndegwa was accompanied by governor Jonathan Bii, senior Safaricom officials, athlete Faith Chelangat and county officials.
Kwambox perplexed many by addressing the telecommunications Boss Mr Ndegwa as Bazuu.
Mr Ndegwa painted Hook as a bridging gap between ideas and opportunities for the youth.
Safaricom Hook goals
“We want to do three things with Hook. The first, enable you to access the internet,” said Ndegwa.
“We will give you smartphones on a pay-as-you-go. Secondly, we will enable you to live your passions. For instance, sports and fashion.”
Hook also provides the youth with a platform where they can acquire different skills to give them a competitive edge in the job market.
“Lastly, we will hook you up with opportunities. We have partnered with the likes of Meta for training,” added the Safaricom boss.
Safaricom’s statement
In a statement released by the telecommunication giant, it was stated that they have also partnered with Wowzi and Brighter Monday.
“As the name suggests, Safaricom wants to create a lasting connection with a generation that has unique needs,” Mr Ndegwa was quoted in the statement.
What is Safaricom Hook?
It is a platform is keen on three areas: technology, career and culture.
Its main goal is to enable youths aged between 10-24 years to maximize their digital potential.
Career focusses on Gen Zs who aspire to pursue conventional careers while culture focuses on those who are interested in unconventional careers.
“In the Culture hook, the telecommunication giant seeks to enable Gen Z to pursue passion points such as sports (Safaricom Dimba) and the upcoming Athletics series,content creation and fashion,” read a statement by them.
Technology focuses on youths interested in technology and those pursuing careers in tech.
The telecommunication giant recently launched the second annual Engineering Summit.
