The second edition of the Sakaja Super Cup concluded with a dazzling awards ceremony today, Saturday, December 21, 2024, at City Hall, Nairobi. The tournament celebrated the winners and recognized exceptional talent from across the competition.
Men’s Category Winners
Githurai All Stars (GAS) retained their championship crown, clinching the Ksh 3 million top prize. Their goalkeeper, Ishmael ‘Noddy’ Otieno, was honored with the Golden Glove Award and an additional Ksh 100,000 cash prize.
The runners-up, Kawasaki Sports, received Ksh 2 million, while their captain, Albert Sande, was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), earning him Ksh 200,000.
South C Rangers, who secured third place, walked away with Ksh 1 million, while Shauri Moyo United, finishing fourth, received Ksh 250,000 for the first time in the tournament’s history.
Individual Honors
Top Scorer: Benjamin Musyoka (Lucky Summer United) with 14 goals – Ksh 100,000.
Most Promising Player: Jermaine Khamati, 17, (Shauri Moyo United).
Fair Play Team: Lucky Summer United.
Ladies’ Category Winners
In the ladies’ competition, Shrink Pack Starlets from Kasarani emerged victorious, earning Ksh 1 million. South C Queens took the runners-up prize of Ksh 500,000, while Nairobi Starlets secured third place, receiving Ksh 250,000.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, who presided over the event, commended the participants and highlighted the tournament’s impact on youth development.
“It is not easy to organize such a tournament—it is costly, but the positive impact on our youth and local communities is immense. Next year, we aim to expand this initiative with more stadiums and host the final at City Stadium. This tournament is a beacon of hope for our young people,” said Sakaja.
Tournament Overview
The 2024 Sakaja Super Cup featured over 25,000 players from 782 men’s teams and 34 ladies’ teams, making it one of the largest grassroots football tournaments in Kenya.
The competition continues to empower young talent, foster community engagement, and serve as a platform for aspiring footballers to showcase their skills on a grand stage.
