Senators experienced a light-hearted moment with Samburu Governor Jonathan Lati when he admitted that he struggles to relate to the term “Gen Z.”
Appearing before the Senate Standing Committee on National Cohesion, Equal Opportunity, and Regional Integration to discuss the state of Samburu County, Governor Lati confessed that he finds it challenging to use the term “Gen Z” to refer to young people, as it is not a commonly recognized term among his constituents.
The moment unfolded when nominated Senator Beth Syengo posed a question to the governor regarding matters related to Gen Z. The exchange left committee members both amused and intrigued.
Governor Lati explained that he faces difficulties when discussing youth welfare and their involvement in county development initiatives due to the unfamiliarity of the term “Gen Z” among his electorate. He emphasized that the term feels foreign in Samburu, noting that many in his community would struggle to even pronounce “Gen Z” because the sound ‘z’ is not present in their local language.
