Samburu: Three arrested as police seize bhang worth KSh5.9 million

Three men were arrested in Samburu County on Monday night while allegedly ferrying 196 kilograms of bhang.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) says the suspects were travelling aboard a trailer under registration KCZ 198E.

They were intercepted by police officers at a roadblock at Archers Post in Samburu County where K-9 were dispatched to search the vehicle.

“After a thorough search, 66 bales of bhang estimated at a street value of Sh5.9 million were confiscated and have since been secured as exhibits,” read part of their statement.

Apparently, the suspects had concealed the illegal drug in sacks of beans.

The driver of the trailer Isaack Mohammed Bakacha, 34, and two others- Harun Mohammed Galgalo (20) and Ali Abdikadir Mohammed (22) were arrested.

Police officers also detained the trailer pending further investigations.

Bhang worth KSh5 million seized in Laikipia

A similar operation was conducted in Laikipia County over the weekend where police officers seized bhang worth KSh5 million.

Laikipia County police commander John Nyoike stated that two suspects were arrested as they were ferrying the drug from Tanzania to an unknown destination in Meru using a Toyota Fielder model car under registration number KCZ 858 R.

David Odhiambo and John Okech were booked at Nanyuki Police Station.

“Our police officers while on operation, through a tip-off from members of the public were able to make an arrest and seize bhang that was being transported to an unknown place in Meru. Police netted 50 packages with a street value of Ksh5 million,” the police boss added.
