Sanaipei Tande is a renown Kenyan musician who also wears other hats including; former radio presenter, actress, business lady and so on.

At 38 years now, she recalls how life in her 20s was really tough as she navigated through relationships, music and finances.

Sanaipei Tande rose to stardom in the music industry at the age of 19. Gullible as she was, she got into a relationship with an older guy who was in the same field but their union did not last long.

“The guy I was dating who was in the music business dumped me. He said I was not doing anything in my life. I was confused because I thought he was the one who was supposed to help me,” she began.

Moving Back Home

The musician resorted to performing in clubs on karaoke nights just to make ends meet.

By that time, Sanapei Tande was a household name, so the trolling when people met her in clubs was on another level.

“Yaani Sana ameishiwa hadi anaimba kwa bars? Yani Sana is so washed out that she is singing alongside drunkards…” she recalled.

Sanaipei Dates Again

As if that was not enough, Sanaipei fell into another toxic relationship in her prime 20s, when men thirsted over her and praised her beauty.

“I was with this guy for the better part of my 20s and I could share so many incidents that just put me down, made me feel so low, so useless…” she narrated.

In one unfortunate case, Sanaipei’s boyfriend abandoned him along a certain street after she confronted him over an affair.

Surprisingly, that did not mark the end of their relationship. In the subsequent years, he went on with his peculiar behaviors, including; going out to clubs alone.

Did I call you?

Sanapei, who had moved back to her parents’ home, would visit her boyfriend to check up on him after his wild adventures.

“I would get to his parents’ house where he lived, it was a posh estate by the way. I would take a matatu because I could not fuel my car. So when I got there I would say hi to his fam and then go to wake him up.

“I would stay there for like an hour, maybe two, then he wakes up in a panic. He would ask, ‘Why are you here? Did I call you?” the former radio presenter recalled, wiping away tears but smiling.

Shockingly, she put up with him for longer because “I was in love” and though the man would change for the better. Unfortunately, he did not and Sanapei eventually walked away.

She asserts that love is a beautiful thing despite her unpleasant experiences.
