Kenya’s former Tokyo Marathon champion Sarah Chepchirchir is in trouble once again with the Athletics Integrity Unit for Violeting the Anti Doping regulations by the AIU for the second time.
This has subsequently earn the athlete a eight her suspension from all athletics related activities.
The AIU has reported that Chepchirchir had returned an adverse analytical finding for testosterone, from sample collected during the Bangsaen42 Chonburi Marathon in Thailand in November.
According to the rules Chepchirchir’s ban will be backdated to December 22, 2023 and Chepchirchir’s competition results from November 5 onwards will be disqualified.
In 2019 Chepchirchir received a four year ban back to April 2018 after abnormalities were found in her athlete blood passport.
Chepchirchir, who won the Tokyo Marathon in 2017, had the option to have the ban reduced by one year by formally admitting to the charge, but failed to do so by the deadline of February 11.
Meanwhile a multiagency team on Saturday, January 27 arrested an athlete and pharmacist in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County handling doping substances.
The team comprised of Directorate Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers from the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK), their counterparts from Keiyo South, ADAK Compliance officer and Pharmacy and Poison Board Inspectors.
