Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay scored two goals in second-half stoppage time to give Manchester United a 2-1 win at home to Brentford on Saturday, October 7, 2023.
McTominay replaced Sofyan Amrabat in the 87th minute and produced heroics that made goalkeeper Andre Onana run the full length of the pitch to embrace him after scoring the winner.
Five minutes into stoppage time, United seemed destined for their third consecutive defeat at Old Trafford, courtesy of a first-half blunder by Andre Onana that allowed Mathias Jensen to give the visiting team the lead.
However, Scott McTominay dramatically altered the atmosphere in Manchester. First, he fired in a rebound, and then, a mere minute later, he headed in a goal from Harry Maguire’s flick-on, securing all three points for Erik ten Hag’s men.
Brentford’s players, on the brink of achieving their first victory at this stadium since 1937, were left devastated.
They believed the offside flag had spared them when Kristoffer Ajer inadvertently put the ball into his own net in the 89th minute. Yet, McTominay’s late heroics turned the tables in favor of Manchester United.
Manchester United are now 10th on the log with 12 points from the opening eight matches while Brentford are 14th with seven points.

Manchester United suffered their fourth Premier League defeat of the season when Joachim Anderson’s early goal secured a 1-0 victory for Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Having previously suffered a home league defeat against Brighton, the lackluster hosts found themselves trailing once again in the 25th minute as Anderson skillfully placed the ball into the top corner of the net.
With just nine points and a goal difference of -4, this marks Manchester United’s worst-ever start to a Premier League season after seven games. Their last worse start to a top-flight campaign was in the 1989-90 season.
