A scrap metal dealer was arrested on Monday February 3, 2025 at night in Kariobangi, Nairobi while in possession of 31 trolleys believed to have been stolen from the city centre.
According to police, the suspect was traced after trolley operators at the city centre reported through their chairperson that their tools of trade were missing.
The incident happened as Nairobi County officers were carrying out a crackdown on trolleys and hand carts in the city.
It is stated that during the exercise, a total of 20 trolleys were confiscated by people believed to be officers from Nairobi City County and taken to unknown locations.
But upon following up, the trolley owners visited the county yard along Haile Selassie and found none of the trolleys there, and the yardmaster denied having detained the trolleys within the yard.
Acting on a tip off, police officers visited a scrap metal yard within Kariobangi where they recovered a total of 31 trolleys.
The owner of the yard, who is a licensed scrap metal dealer, was arrested to assist in further investigations.
