The 11-member select committee of the National Assembly has cleared Agriculture cabinet secretary Mithika Linturi in the fake fertiliser scandal.
This was after 7 out of 11 members of the committee voted to save Linturi from impeachment over distribution of fake fertiliser in the country.
As the committee was drafting the final report, details emerged that the select committee was strategically formed to save Linturi.
Confirmed reports from insiders indicated that during the report writing stage there was intense lobbying from both sides and underhand-dealings that were aimed at saving Linturi from impeachment.
Clearance of the Agriculture CS sparked an uproar from Azimio MPs, who insisted that those responsible for the fake fertiliser must be held accountable.
“Even if this House attempts to allow Mithika Linturi to go scot-free, in the fullness of time, each and every person involved in this racket will have a date with destiny,” said Opiyo Wandayi, National Assembly minority leader.
Meanwhile, Bumula MP Jack Wamboka, who moved the impeachment motion against Linturi, has maintained that the Agriculture CS must go.
“There are so many ways of killing a rat and one of them is the Select Committee. We will be proceeding ahead of this because we are determined for the Kenyan farmer. Mithika Linturi must go for fake fertiliser!” he asserted.
