Selena Gomez, the beloved actress and singer, recently shared her deeply personal journey toward motherhood.
In an emotional interview with Vanity Fair for the October issue, Gomez, 32, revealed a heartbreaking truth—she cannot carry her children due to medical complications.
“I haven’t ever said this…but I unfortunately can’t carry my children,” she shared.
Gomez, who was diagnosed with lupus in 2015 and later revealed her bipolar diagnosis in 2020, explained that her health conditions would make pregnancy dangerous for both her and the baby.
“I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy.
That was something I had to grieve for a while,” she said, reflecting on the emotional impact of the news.
Despite the sorrow, Gomez remains optimistic and filled with hope.
She has embraced the possibilities of surrogacy or adoption, viewing them as beautiful paths to motherhood.
“I find it a blessing that wonderful people are willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me,” she said.
“I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”
This is not the first time Gomez has spoken about her desire to become a mother.
In a November 2022 interview, she candidly shared how the medications she takes for her bipolar disorder may prevent her from carrying her children.
Despite the challenges, she remains hopeful, saying, “However I’m meant to have them, I will.”
Alongside her thoughts on motherhood, Gomez also opened up about her relationship with her boyfriend, music producer Benny Blanco.
“I’ve never been loved this way… He’s just been a light.
A complete light in my life,” she gushed. Gomez shared how Blanco has introduced her to the simple joys of cooking and gardening, activities that now help her feel grounded.
