Senator Allan Chesang sues blogger Cyprian Nyakundi for linking him to KSh1B fake gold scam

Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang has sued blogger Cyprian Nyakundi and a local publication for allegedly linking him to KSh1 billion fake gold scam.

In a demand letter dated September 12, 2023, Senator Chesang demands Nyakundi and Citizen Weekly to retract the defamatory statement against him.

The lawmaker rues that Nyakundi’s actions have painted him as a filthy person of corrupt and lose morals by linking him to the crime.

In a tweet on Tuesday, September 12, Nyakundi posted a statement that linked Chesang, and MPs Felix Odiwuor and Zaheer Jhanda to a fake fold scam.

While vehemently denying the allegations, Senator Chesang now wants him to compensate for the damage he has caused to his reputation.

“The aforementioned post not only lacks factual basis but also serves to tarnish our client’s name and professional standing in the community. The foregoing goes to demonstrate that you intended to form a negative and undesirable opinion about our client and to our client’s detriment,” the demand letter to Nyakundi and the publication reads in part.

Apart from retracting, compensating and apologising, Senator Chesang wants Nyakundi to publish a correction and clarification to inform readers that earlier statements were false and without merit.

“Take notice that if the foregoing demands are not met by yourself on the date of receipt of this letter, our mandatory instructions are to pursue civil proceedings against both the newspaper and the individuals responsible for this defamatory statement,” the demand letter concludes.
