A High Court in Nairobi on Friday, September 29, quashed a decision by the Senate to suspend nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba for six months.
The Senate’s decision to suspend Senator Orwoba was quashed pending a hearing and determination of an application.
This was after the nominated Senator filed a case in court after she was suspended, arguing that the process was unfair, unjust, and unprocedural.
The Senate Committee on Powers and Privileges recommended her suspension over alleged gross misconduct.
Before the suspension, Orwoba was summoned for grilling by the committee where she was expected to substantiate her claims of sexual harassment by a clerk at the chambers.
At that time, she failed to appear before the committee to substantiate the sexual assault claims in her defence.
She was also expected to apologize to the Senate before she could be allowed to resume the sessions.
