Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has addressed rumors surrounding her financial situation after reports surfaced alleging auctioneers were planning to seize her property worth over Ksh1.25 million to clear rent arrears.
In an interview with a local media station, Karen Nyamu firmly dismissed the claims as baseless, assuring the public that she is financially stable.
She also criticized what she described as deliberate attempts to tarnish her reputation.
“There are people who think they can sponsor media, use rogue means to arm-twist and intimidate you into making commitments that are unjustified,” the senator remarked.
Nyamu emphasized her resilience against intimidation, insisting that proper procedures must be followed.
“I am here to teach them that it doesn’t work with everyone. The right way has to be followed, and I do not want to address my issues in public,” she said.
Supporters rally to help
Following the allegations, concerned supporters began organizing a fundraiser to assist Nyamu in settling the supposed arrears.
“They should not be concerned. Yesterday, I had people wanting to raise money for me,” Nyamu stated, expressing gratitude for the goodwill.
However, she clarified, “I’m not broke. I actually received some contributions on my phone, and while I appreciate Kenyans for their kindness, I am fine and do not need donations.”
Earlier reports claimed auctioneers, escorted by police, had visited Nyamu’s Runda home to recover items for sale to offset the alleged debt. The senator dismissed these accounts as rumors and reiterated her financial independence.
Nyamu also disclosed that a colleague had inquired whether she was involved in gambling, a question she brushed off while insisting she was managing her finances well.
“I’m living well. I may not have everything, but I’m far from needing to beg for funds,” she said.
Public controversy
The senator, known for her involvement in public debates and controversies, maintained that such allegations are part of a broader scheme to discredit her.
“I will not allow anyone to intimidate or pressure me into actions that go against my principles,” she concluded.
