Senator Karen Nyamu under fire for using wrong side of the road

Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu fell on the receiving end of online trolls for driving on the wrong side of the road in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD).

In a video which she first shared on her social media platforms, her driver was featured attempting to navigate traffic snarl up at a roundabout in Nairobi.

“Aki Kanairo wewe (Nairobi you),” she captioned the video.

A traffic police officer was seen a few metres away directing motorists in efforts to reduce traffic along the busy roundabout.

Nyamu’s driver however caused some motorists who were moving in the opposite direction to disperse to create way for her vehicle.

Kenyans online were irked with the video, questioning why the police officer did not intervene as Nyamu was clearly obstructing other motorists.

Activist Boniface Mwangi accused her of disrespecting the same Kenyans whose taxes allowed her to own and maintain her vehicle.

“Nominated Senator @karennyamunbo instructs her driver to “steal with confidence!” We give legislators a Sh5 million car grant, fuel that car for 5 years, pay their driver and bodyguard(s).

“Then they terrorize us on our roads by driving on the wrong side of the road. Disrespect!” he added.

“A police officer looks on but does nothing. I was holding my breath while watching it. Driving dangerously, recording and posting it on public platforms. Brazen impunity,” Anne Soy wrote.

DJ Soxxy, a road safety advocate, questioned the traffic police officer who ‘turned a blind eye’ to the situation.

“Saddest bit is that the cop didn’t even flinch. Ama “hazard” hufanya polisi anakuwa raiya?” he wrote.

“The saddest thing isnt about the cop ……its about grown man and woman who are blatantly breaking the law knowingly and seems to laugh about it,” Frank Irungu opined.

“This should be enough to get her driver charged with a traffic offence, and Mwesh impeached for abuse of office, but what is Kenya,” Kip added.
