Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa has broken his silence after he was ousted from an influential committee, in an ongoing purge targeting former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s allies.
In changes that were announced on Wednesday, February 12, evening, Senator Thang’wa was removed as the chairperson of the Senate’s Roads and Transport Committee.
“I knew it would happen! I expected it! The purge has been effected. I take it like a man and vow to soldier on, unbowed,” Senator Thang’wa wrote on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday, February 13.
In a thinly veiled attack on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party, the senator said that his ouster from the influential position had freed up his schedule.
“Meanwhile, I sincerely thank the Yellow party for freeing up my schedule. Chairing the Roads & Transport Committee at the Senate was great, but I guess progress was just too much to handle—I mean, I just couldn’t keep up with ‘barabara itoke Thika, iende Garissa, ifike Mandera, iende Rhamu, ifike Modagashe’ and all that jazz,” he added.
Now with “no shackles on my hands”, the senator said he would dedicate all his time in keeping the broad-based government in check. “It’s time to inject proper! —without speed bumps! I continue serving the Nation and the People with my head high!”
Other senators allied to Gachagua who were kicked out of various lucrative House committees include Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu ( Education Committee chair), and Kirinyaga Senator James Murango (Agriculture Committee Chair).
Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah, who has been very critical of the Kenya Kwanza Government on diverse issues among them abduction, has also been kicked out of the Senate Public Accounts Committee.
