Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has submitted a petition to remove Malala as UDA Secretary General.
The senator has filed the motion to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Disputes Resolutions Committee.
According to his submission, he is seeking the removal of Cleophas Malala from his position as the party’s Secretary-General in clear language.
Khalwale’s petition
In his petition, Khalwale accuses Malala of exploiting his position for personal gain.
He goes on to state that he is taking advantage of situations to benefit himself at the expense of party members.
He also alleges that Malala has overstepped his authority and has been involved in hiring regional and county managers without authorization.
The regional managers are for the upcoming grassroots elections which Khalwale insists was without proper consultation.

In his submission, he highlights key party organs such as the National Executive Committee and the National Elections Board we ignored.
Khalwale argues that Malala’s actions have compromised the election process by appointing his associates and friends.
These associates and friends have been appointed as election management officials without merit and authority backing.
As a result, he requests that the committee issue an injunction to prevent Malala from exercising the functions of the Secretary-General of UDA.

Malala’s push for one party
In more practical terms, Khalwale seeks to strip Malala of his mandate as the Secretary General of the UDA party.
This move comes after a rift between Malala and Khalwale, with Khalwale challenging Malala’s directive for parties allied with UDA.
Malala’s view is that the allied parties should dissolve their organizations and join the ruling coalition.
Khalwale questioned Malala’s legitimacy within UDA and criticized his actions in relation to other parties like ANC and Ford-Kenya.
A phenomenon of such was observed a couple of years ago when parties allied to Jubilee were dissolved to form the bigger party.
In brief, it is unclear how the disciplinary committee will rule in regard to Khalwale’s case.
