Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba now wants answers from Mash Poa Bus Company after a lady claimed that she was drugged, robbed and sexually assaulted while travelling in one of its vehicles.
In a letter to the company dated April 21, 2025, Senator Orwoba is requesting a comprehensive report regarding the “distressing” incident reported by one Ms. Adelle Omondi.
Ms. Omondi, a Nairobi loctician, claims that she boarded a Mash Poa bus en route to Mombasa. She suspects that a passenger who sat next to her on seat no. 38 was involved in the whole act that resulted in her waking up in a hospital.
Upon reaching Mtito Andei, Ms Omondi alleges, the man left the bus and returned with two cups of tea. The man shared the cup of tea with her. She would later wake up disoriented at Coast General Hospital. All her belongings had been stolen.
She says that she tried reaching out to the bus company for the details of the alleged passenger but her request was denied.
“I need an explanation of how I woke up in hospital without my private clothes on yet I had them when boarding that bus. So at this point I don’t know if I was raped while drugged or not. I am losing it because I don’t have answers and all am getting from the company is we don’t know,” she said.
According to the nominated senator, the incident raises serious concerns about passenger safety and the protocols in place to protect individuals travelling with Mash Poa buses.
“Given the gravity of the situation, I urge you to prioritize this matter and provide a full incident report detailing the events as they transpired, including any actions taken by your staff and management in response to the incident,” Senator Orwoba says.
This report, the lawmaker says, is critical not only for addressing the needs of Ms. Omondi but also for ensuring that appropriate measures are taken to enhance the safety and security of all passengers.
“Please submit the requested report to my attention by Close of Business Tuesday, 22nd April. I trust that you will treat this request with the urgency and seriousness it demands. I look forward to your swift response.”
