The Senate has approved the decision by Kisii Members of County Assembly (MCAs) to impeach Deputy Governor Robert Monda.
The senators left it late on Thursday, March 14 evening to overwhelmingly vote in favour of Monda’s removal from office.
The embattled deputy governor was found guilty of all the four counts that formed grounds for his impeachment by the MCAs.
Thirty-nine (39) senators voted in favour of his impeachment on charge one – gross violation of the Constitution or any other law.
On the second charge of abuse of office, 39 senators voted to impeach Monda, one senator abstained while three opposed his impeachment.
Thirty-five (35) senators found the deputy governor guilty of gross misconduct, with only seven (7) senators voting to save him.
Either, 32 senators agreed that the deputy governor was guilty of committing crimes under national law. Only 10 senators voted to save him on this charge.
