Police in Kilimani, Nairobi County, are investigating an incident where a senior NIS official reportedly committed suicide in his house.
Tom Mboya Adala, a 54-year-old Assistant Director of National Intelligence Service (NIS), is said to have committed suicide by shooting himself using a pistol on the right side of the head, which exited on his left side.
The uncle of the deceased, Francis Oduor, made the report of the incident at Kilimani Police Station on Tuesday, June 4 at around 3 pm.
In the report, Oduor says he was living with the deceased (Kirichwa Villas within Kilimani area) and that he saw him last on Monday, June 3 as he went to sleep in his room upstairs, while he also retired to bed in his room downstairs.
“Today 04/06/24 he woke up to his morning chores and their house help Caroline Amanda (day house help) arrived, prepared breakfast for them but the deceased wasn’t seen up to 0900. The reportee climbed upstairs to check him in his room but he was not there.
“He asked their watchman Maurice who was at the gate if the deceased had gone outside but he had not. he went round checking the compound just to find him lying dead inside the servant quarters,” the report reads in part.
After the report was made, DCI officers from Kilimani and senior officials from NIS visited the scene.
A Glock 19 pistol s/no zkg 589, one spent cartridge and a magazine loaded with 3 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the scene.
In his bedroom, another spare magazine was recovered loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition and a suicide note ( written on black note book) placed on the bed.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the deceased has been battling depression for sometime.
The body was removed to Lee Funeral Home.
