In Serie A, the match between Fiorentina and Inter Milan was suspended after a player collapsed on the field on Sunday December 1, 2024 at Stadio Artemio Franchi in Florence, Italy.
Only 17 minutes into the first half, Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove crouched to tie his shoelace and suddenly collapsed, lying motionlessly on the pitch.
A wall of players from both teams formed around him, allowing him to receive treatment.
Several teammates were in tears as the Italy Under-21 international was transported to the hospital by ambulance after the match was suspended.
Fiorentina, together with the hospital, issued a statement confirming Bove is receiving treatment and is in stable condition.
“Bove arrived at the emergency department in stable haemodynamic conditions, and initial cardiological and neurological tests have ruled out acute damage to the central nervous system and the cardiorespiratory system.”
Reports indicated that there’s no brain or heart damage for Edoardo who continues to receive care at Careggi University Hospital
“Positive news for Edoardo Bove as the night went well and Fiorentina’s player was extubated—after almost 13 hours. Edoardo is awake, conscious as he answers questions.” Insider Fabrizio Romano posted on X
Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso said in a statement the club is contacting the family to support them during these trying times.
“Forza Edoardo, we’re with you. You’re a strong boy with a great character. We’re reaching out to the boy’s family during these moments.”
