Seven arrested for kidnapping, attempted murder of man in Diani

Police in Diani, Kwale County, have arrested seven suspects for the kidnapping and attempted murder of a 35-year-old man.

The suspects allegedly forced , Juma Swaleh into the boot of a car and drove him to a disputed piece of land, where he was brutally assaulted.

Police reports indicate that the victim sustained multiple stab wounds and was found with significant injuries, including cuts on his forehead, face, and nose. He was quickly rushed to Msambweni County Referral Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Kwale police boss Stephen Ngetich confirmed that the case is under active investigation, stating, “The matter is now under active probe, and we will take more action as more come out on the motive.”

The land dispute has been further complicated by a recent court ruling issued by Justice Addraya Edda Dena, which prohibits the Kwale County Government and several other parties from interfering with the property.

The court has ordered that the status quo regarding the land, 1287, be maintained for a period of 21 days. The judge emphasized that any disobedience of the court order would result in penal consequences for those involved.

This legal battle stems from a lawsuit filed by a foreign investor, who claims that local parties are attempting to illegally seize his land under Krav Marine Limited.

Despite the court’s protective measures, there have been reports of unknown individuals invading the property and erecting fences, actions that blatantly disregard the court’s orders. The investor has expressed frustration over the lack of police assistance in securing his property, highlighting the challenges faced in enforcing legal rulings.

The matter is set for a hearing on October 22, 2024.
