Seven individuals were arraigned at the Homa Bay Law Courts in connection with the murder of Paul Sunday, a student at Tom Mboya University.
The suspects—Jacob Okeyo Omollo, Baraka Odhiambo Jude, Monica Atieno, David Ochieng, Arnoder Atieno, Kennedy Ouma Otieno, and Pamela Onyango Otieno—did not take a plea as investigations into the case are still ongoing.
The lead investigator, DCI Bernard Yogo, sought a 15-day detention to allow for further evidence collection.
However, the defense counsel, led by Ongoso, opposed the request, arguing it was unwarranted given the completion of a postmortem examination.
Senior Resident Magistrate Christine Auka ruled that the suspects be detained for seven days to facilitate the finalization of investigations.
The prosecution, represented by Rhoda Kibunja, supported the request for extended detention, citing the complexity of the case.
The court adjourned the matter, directing the investigating team to present their findings in the next session.
