Several Tanzanian Members of Parliament sustained injuries in a road accident while traveling to Mombasa, Kenya, for the East Africa Community (EAC) Parliamentary Games, according to Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi. The accident involved members of the Tanzanian delegation, including football players.
MP Atandi confirmed the incident during a media address at the Nairobi Railway Terminus, expressing deep sympathies for the injured lawmakers.
“We have received information that members of the Tanzanian team were involved in a road accident, and some MPs have sustained injuries. Among those injured are football players from their delegation,” he stated.
Atandi extended heartfelt well-wishes to the injured MPs, wishing them a swift recovery.
“Our thoughts are with our colleagues who are currently receiving treatment in hospital. On behalf of the Kenyan delegation, I want to send them messages of sympathy and solidarity.”
Spirit of Regional Unity
Despite the unfortunate event, MP Atandi emphasized the importance of the EAC Parliamentary Games in fostering regional unity and collaboration.
“We are excited to welcome our parliamentary colleagues from across East Africa to Mombasa for this year’s games. These events symbolize our unity and cooperation as a region,” he added.
The EAC Parliamentary Games serve as an annual gathering of legislators from member states, promoting regional harmony through sports and friendly competition.
Updates on the condition of the injured MPs and the progress of these games will be provided as they become available.
