Residents of Ofunyu village in Kisumu East Sub County were shocked after a 92-year-old woman was sexually molested by unknown men.

The incident was confirmed by Central Kolwa location chief Elijah Omumbo, who said the suspects forcefully gained access to the victim’s house through the window.

“The old lady raised the alarm but the suspects escaped before neighbors arrived to offer help,” said Chief Omumbo.

Omumbo added that the suspects may have taken advantage of the old lady living alone in her hut.

The incident has caused an uproar as residents and local leaders urge the police to investigate the matter and arrest the suspects involved in the heinous act.

The 92-year-old woman is currently admitted to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) where she is undergoing treatment.

At the same time, the area chief warned residents against engaging in such criminal activities, adding that those found would face the law.

A report from JOOTRH shows the old woman is in stable condition but the doctors are still attending to her.

However, several cases of elderly women being sexually molested have been reported before as the motive behind such bizarre incidents remains unknown.

In a separate incident, Police arrested two suspects on August 25, over the raping and killing of a 76-year-old woman at Serem, in Vihiga county.

According to the police report, the two were arrested in Majengo, Vihiga county in possession of the deceased’s mobile phone.

“The suspects were arrested in Majengo area while in possession of the deceased’s mobile phone that formed part of the items robbed from her during the July 18 robbery,” read part of the police report.

Police officers explained that on the fateful night, the killer gang had broken into the old woman’s house and attacked her with blunt objects before raping her.
