A family in Gateway Village, Sindo Sub Location, Suba South Constituency, is struggling to come to terms with a tragic incident in which a 23-year-old woman allegedly killed her four-and-a-half-month-old daughter before taking her own life.
The deceased, identified as Christine Awuor, is said to have committed the act following frustrations over alleged neglect by her estranged boyfriend.
According to the area assistant chief, Caroline Ngere, Awuor has been living with her child in a rental house before the shocking development.
She was found hanging from the roof of her house using a sisal rope, while the lifeless body of her infant was discovered lying on the bed, covered. A suicide note found at the scene revealed that Awuor blamed her boyfriend for abandoning her and failing to provide for their child, which she cited as the reason behind her actions.
Confirming the incident, Suba South Sub-County Police Commander Caxton Dunda said that investigations have been launched to establish further details surrounding the tragedy.
Authorities have urged community members to seek support in times of distress and encouraged mediation in family disputes to prevent similar occurrences.
