Shock, grief as teacher collapses and dies while playing football with children in Nairobi

Authorities are investigating the sudden death of a schoolteacher who collapsed while engaging in a football game with students in Pangani area, Nairobi.

James Mathenge, an educator at Nadhir Integrated Academy, had taken a group of pupils to the Sir Ali Muslim Academy field for an afternoon sports session.

Witnesses reported that Mathenge began experiencing difficulty breathing around 3 p.m. before collapsing on the field.

He was quickly taken to a nearby clinic but was pronounced dead on arrival. Police visited the scene and interviewed witnesses.

His body was transferred to the mortuary for a postmortem examination. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of death, which brought the game to an abrupt halt.

In a separate incident in Dandora, Nairobi, a 14-year-old boy died after being electrocuted. According to police, the teenager was washing a lorry that had dumped garbage near a petrol station when he stepped on an exposed live wire lying on wet ground.

The driver of the lorry had asked the boy to clean the vehicle, unaware of the hidden danger. The body was taken to the mortuary for an autopsy as investigations continue.
