Siaya: 4-year-old boy electrocuted to death by water heater

A 4-year-old boy tragically lost his life after being electrocuted by a water heater at his home in K’Onyango ‘B’ village, Udira Kamrembo, in Ugenya Sub-County.

The incident occurred on Saturday, February 10, 2024, in the evening when he touched the water heater while unattended by his mother, Conslate Akinyi Otieno.

The victim, Precious Atieno Oduor, suffered visible electric burns on his hands, palms, and chest, according to Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo.

The area Assistant Chief, Michael Nyadenge alerted the police about the incident, and Sega police officers visited the scene.

The body of the deceased was transferred to Sega Mission Hospital mortuary for further examination.

A 13 year old electrocuted in Kawangware

Unfortunately, such electrocution incidents are common.

On January 28, 2024, a 13-year-old boy died of an electric shock while connecting power to their house in Kawangware, Nairobi.

The incident occurred when the boy touched a live naked wire during the wiring process.

The police report indicated that the deceased had visible burns on the right side of his chest and the fingers of his left hand.

Kenya Power officials stated that such electrocution cases are often caused by illegal power connections carried out by unqualified personnel.

The body of the deceased was taken to the mortuary for an autopsy.

In March 2023, a grade six pupil in Kisii lost her life after being electrocuted while leaning on a balcony in the Kasarani area of Nairobi.

Twelve-year-old Nelia Nyarinda Misati passed away in the hospital after the incident, which occurred at 7 pm.

According to the family’s lawyer, Nyambega Mose, the girl leaned on a metal balcony without realizing it had come into contact with a live wire.

“The wires were loosely hanging and had touched the metal grill of the balcony, which the girl touched before being electrocuted,” he explained.”
