Siaya: Body of newborn baby found dumped inside a cardboard box

Police Officers in Rarieda Sub-county, Siaya County, have launched investigations after a body of a newborn baby was found dumped at a market.

The body was discovered wrapped and concealed inside a cardboard box at Ndigwa market on Monday April 15, 2024 at night.

It is believed that the baby was abandoned immediately after delivery and police have launched a search for the woman who allegedly left the infant.

Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo confirmed that the incident was reported at Madiany police station by Victor Otunge, the Assistant Chief of Naya sub-location.

In his report, Otunge said that the body of what appeared to be a newborn infant was found abandoned at a roadside within Ndigwa market, carefully placed inside a cardboard box.

Police Commander Kimaiyo further mentioned that officers from Madiany Police station responded to the report and took the body to Madiany sub-county hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy and identification purposes.

Investigations have commenced to arrest the woman responsible for the crime.

In addition, Kimaiyo urged young mothers to refrain from the practice of abandoning their newborn babies.
