Police have launched investigations after a watchman was stabbed to death as he tried to separate fighting revellers at a nightclub in Siaya town.

According to the police, the 30-year-old security guard died after he was stabbed during a chaotic incident at a bar on Saturday August 10, 2024.

The night guard identified as Ben Peter was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Siaya County referral hospital where he was rushed.

Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo said the incident was reported at Siaya police station by Michael Mugola.

Police rushed to the scene of the incident, where they rescued Brian Otieno Ogola while being assaulted at the nightclub after he allegedly stabbed the watchman with a knife.

The officers fired 6 rounds of ammunition in the air to disperse the irate members of the public and managed to rescue Ogola. 

He was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries on the head but in stable condition.

Kimaiyo explained that at around 1.30 am, Ogola was at the Kitu Moto Resort and Night Club partying with friends when chaos erupted.

When the watchman tried to stop the fight, Ogola drew a knife and stabbed him twice in the chest.

The County Police Commander stated that a knife with blood stains was recovered from the crime scene and kept as an exhibit.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased was moved to Siaya County referral hospital morgue for preservation pending autopsy. 

The murder suspect who is still in critical condition is undergoing treatment at the hospital under tight security.
