Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna confirmed that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) are not currently in agreement.
Sifuna’s statement was regarding the 2027 General Elections.
Sifuna stated that despite ODM supporting President Ruto, he is still likely to lose the election.
“If you’re unpopular, it doesn’t matter who you have around you. We’ll lose with Ruto even if we support him,” he said in a local interview.
He also pointed out that the Azimio coalition, despite backing from 26 parties, lost the 2022 elections.
Sifuna emphasized that success is not about the people surrounding the government, but about delivering on promises to the Kenyan people.
“We lost with 26 parties, even managing the logistics of seating the principals was a challenge. In one county, we had three principals, but still came up short,” he added.
Sifuna’s comments follow President Ruto’s praise of Raila for his support of national unity during a youth-led anti-government protest in August 2024.
Ruto expressed hope for long-term unity with the opposition leader to achieve the country’s goals in a peaceful environment.
