Simon Muteti, who was reportedly abducted by unknown individuals in October 2024, has been found alive after 3 months of searching.

In a statement on Tuesday February 11, 2025 in the morning, Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Faith Odhiambo confirmed that Simon Muteti has reunited with his family.

“Mr. Simon Muteti has been released after being held incommunicado for more than 3 months. He is safely with his family but remains petrified by his ordeal. We will extend the necessary legal and psychosocial support to him and the family,” said Faith Odhiambo.

Muteti was reportedly abducted on October 22, 2024, in Timau, Laikipia County, by unknown people.

This comes a few days after Muteti’s family visited LSK offices in Nairobi on January 30, 2025 to seek help. 

“This troubling case underscores an alarming trend of enforced disappearances not only in urban centers like Nairobi but across the country,” said Odhiambo.

“In response to these alarming events, the LSK is intensifying its efforts to provide legal aid, gather information, support affected families, and raise awareness through partnerships with other organizations,” she added. 

Meanwhile, another family from Garsen also visited the LSK offices on January 30, to report that their kin who had been taken into custody at Garsen Police Station went missing on October 5, 2024.

This comes barely a month after 24-year-old Billy Mwangi and 22-year-old Peter Muteti were found alive after they were reported missing on December 20, 2024.

Additionally, others who were also found alive on the same day included cartoonist Kibet Bull’s brother Rony Kiplagat and Benard Kavuli.
