Six commissioners loyal to former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike resigned on Thursday December 15 from the government of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, in Nigeria.
The resignations came at a time when two factions of Rivers State Assembly held parallel sittings.
Out of the six commissioners who have resigned, five served in the same capacity under the previous regime of Governor Wike.
All the six commissioners confirmed their resignations to The Punch in telephone interviews.
For instance, the Commissioner for Works, George-Kelly, noted that he resigned because his conscience could not allow him to continue serving the people.

On the other hand, the Social Welfare Commissioner Mrs Aguma said that her resignation was as a result of having other commitments to attend to.
Attorney General Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor explained to The Punch reporter that he resigned due to his personal principles.
However, the Commissioner for Special Duties Emeka Woke and Commissioner for Finance Isaac Kamalu did not reveal their reasons for their resignations.
The Education Commissioner Prof. Chinedu Mmom in his resignation letter dated December 14, 2023 noted that he resigned due to personal reasons.

Meanwhile, the two factions of Rivers state House of Assembly held parallel sittings at different venues on Thursday December 15.
Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, led 27 pro-Wike lawmakers for a session at the Assembly quarters along Aba Road Port Harcourt while the Edison Ehie-led faction, which is loyal to Governor Fubara held plenary sitting at Government House, Port Harcourt.
This was after Governor Fubara sent bulldozers to demolish the Rivers State Assembly complex on December 14.

Earlier, 27 Lawmakers had defected from Governor Fubara’s party PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) party.
