Six family members die in Kericho night inferno

National NewsNews

Grief and shock has engulfed a village in Kipkelion West, Kericho County, after six family members perished in a house fire.

The incident occurred at around midnight Monday, September 18, in Tumoek village, when fire razed down the family’s house made of timber.

Confirming the incident, Kapkwen Sub-Location Assistant Chief Alice Yegon said the victims included three female adults and three young girls.

The local administrator rued that challenging land terrain coupled with unpassable roads hindered rescue efforts.

Denis Kiprotich, a 30-year-old who lost his mother and other family members in the inferno said the flames engulfed all corners of the house, and “we couldn’t withstand the heat.”
